CAT5e provides 100Mhz bandwidth – whereas the next generation CAT6 provides 200Mhz of useable bandwidth over the system. These levels of bandwidth more than cater for today’s data transmission protocol of high-performance computer networking. A disadvantage of copper cabling is the limit of 90 meters of cabling from the main patch panel to the final outlet – so to address this drawback, fibre optic cabling is used.
